tender is the touch of someone that you love too much

just came back from holland v, which would normally not be unusual except for a few things.

a little courtesy goes a long way. was at the post office mailing a letter and realised that being nice to the postal workers help. some of the other customers were being absolutely impossible and it pays to be nice cos they are all more than willing to help you if you are. also, i realise that no one goes to the post office to mail stuff anymore. they go to pay bills, buy money orders or just to take up time. irritating.

went to buy lunch at the coffeeshop across from crystal jade. the western food stall there serves absolutely delicious chicken. but i was sobered by this guy who came to order after me. he spoke with this weird american accent though i'm quite sure he's singaporean. and when the flamboyant (i mean it in the best possible way: it's difficult to exude enthusiasm when you're stuck in a coffeeshop for 12 hours or more a day and having to put up with all kinds of unreasonable) boss shouted out the order to the cook, the guy was just laughing at how 'native' he was, amused at his use of the word 'satu' instead of one when the boss was obviously malay. quite irritating though i suppose the guy was pretty decent. and i swore to myself NEVER to pick up an american accent. if i do, you are welcome to slap me.

and i love these little quaint oddities of singapore, where people routinely mix upwards to 3 or 4 languages and dialects into one sentence, where good food is cheap if you don't mind the heat and people can be so warm and friendly. who says service is bad in singapore? i mean, even though i'm quite obviously just a teenager, i've been called 'sir' more times in the past few days than a 2LT in BMTC. okay not quite. but enough times for it to be embarrassing for me. haha.

met dedrick and a bunch of people i assume to be his fellow med students. and thought he was having a good time. good for him. everytime i see him, i wonder to myself why i didn't just stay in singapore where i can be comfortable yet still have a new experience. then i tell myself how i absolutely need the best education i can get, and for my chosen discipline requires me to be where i am going.

went to emf bookshop next. which i also like cos it reminds me of nice things. bought me two pretty new books

things i bought today:
future shock by alvin toffler - $16
bill bryson's made in america - $20

it would be fun to read made in america while on a plane to america. i think.
