"Like water under bridges,
You're slowly passing by.
So you sail between the rooftops and the sky."

realising today that i have too many sad songs and not enough happy ones. which might be a contributing factor to my melancholy.
watched '36' with hongwan and jayce today. the short version: '36' is really like the french 'infernal affairs'.
the long version (skip if you don't want my pretentious analysis): i felt it was a very cohesive and coherent piece of filmmaking. the music and motifs, as well as the entire tone of the production fit well with the theme of the movie, which i would say is the idea of justice and what that entails. very hard to comment on the acting, cos i have no idea what the hell the actors were saying, though hongwan was suitably impressed by their french. haha. not so good were the various scenes of pointless nudity (which is apparently a modern french cinema hallmark - really?) which really did nothing to contextualise themselves and were therefore a waste since it served the only function of raising the film's ratings. it would probably have been PG if not, but with them it was nc-16. the ending was somehow not entirely convincing, as if the movie tried too hard to create a sort of happy ending that was perhaps unjustified thematically. it perhaps would have had more impact if the action was to end with the main character crying in his jail cell, at which point i honestly felt the film was over. but still, quite effective film in conveying the story. perhaps better than 'the longest yard', which was the considered alternative. i would also now like a trenchcoat, cos the french policemen in the movie looked so cool and unflappable with them on.
meanwhile, i realise that i have a mere 10 days before my scheduled departure, something i will confirm tomorrow by calling trident travels for perhaps the last time in my life. fingers crossed, i will be ready to go soon.
