it's some what unfortunate that the one thing this past week and a half that has kind of cheered me up is the death of a great economist. well, the fact that he died was obviously sad, but today's panel discussion on Milton Friedman's work was extremely inspiring. the fact is, mired in the math that econ in chicago is, it's sometimes hard to see why i loved economics in the first place. but Friedman, the genius he is, got it right so long ago. the only way to really convince anyone is with empirical evidence, and that's why all the math and stat is important. it doesn't matter how good you are at arguing your point, but if objective fact stands against you, you lose every single time.
sometimes i feel extremely glad that i'm here.
meanwhile, i'm rediscovering my love for the jayhawks. the last time i listened to them for long tracts (well, actually the first time) was after i had just enlisted into the army. somehow, part of the same feeling has returned and i have no idea what it is or why.
