two separate things:
first, i finally saw 'august: osage county', and it is really THAT good. definitely better than 'superior donuts' (though that was more accessible). it's really an epic, something you don't see very much anymore i feel. the writing is simply amazing, just an endless string of terrific lines which all sound appropriate. it was about 3 and a half hours long, and not a single moment or word felt wasted. the story is sprawling but coherent, pulling together a huge breadth of themes. if it were possible, i would see it again.
second, i had one of those moments today, where you feel like you're at just the right place. a nobel winner was teaching game theory using the story of cain and abel. only here, and nowhere else.
somehow i have decided to be concise. rather, i simply was. as an aside, i'm having a beer on monday night because i feel like i should be celebrating something. who knows what?
