i've formed a habit of looping a single song repeatedly while thinking. tonight, the song is 'all apologies'. the only version i have, since i don't own 'in utero', is the mtv unplugged version from their greatest hits compilation (in case there is still confusion about what band i am talking about, it's nirvana). i had the good fortune of listening to the studio version last night, which is somewhat inferior to the unplugged version, simply because it's really such a quiet song at heart. it's a very simple song too, which always lends itself to quiet renditions. well, i sort of forgot where i was going with this, but i guess part of my point is how i seem to understand that song better now, which is nice. also, on the topic of music, people should listen to john frusciante's album 'shadows collide with people'. fantastic stuff.
in a totally different arena, i'm coming to have a lack of faith in how humans interact with each other. i think we are so unsuited for it. we can hardly see past our own insecurities and frailties, which we impose upon others so inconsiderately. we all wish we could read minds, and so frequently pretend we can. we presume so much, and pretend our presumptions mean something. we misunderstand and refuse to overcome our misunderstandings. what is all this worth at the end of the day, i don't quite know.
final thing: it seems i've been nominated to join some kind of strange society which includes among its members the lead guitarist of linkin park, bush senior, ashley judd and jeff bezos of amazon.com fame. i'm highly amused. they do appear to have a cool looking society pin thingy, which would make a fantastic keyring ornament.
