poor little fish swimming in the water

so as reminded, this blog has be grossly neglected. largely cos i have too much other stuff to write. but to the matter.

which i suppose is just fragmented stuff i should really have written down long ago, but never did. starting from the most recent i suppose. which is harry potter. which i saw two nights ago and was pretty good. in a very "empire strikes back" kind of way, in that it is effective as a bridge between the start and the end of the series. but apart from that, the action, while exciting, is mediocre compared to many of the huge sci-fi/fantasy franchises of recent date (which i suppose includes the harry potter series). it is still quite visually stunning, but to expect anything less would be to do no justice to the book. but really, this installment did little to expand the series, so much as it managed to merely keep it going. it is by no means a bad film, it just isn't satisfying. but i suppose this feeling is common to movies you know you'll be watching the sequel to, which i suppose afflicted even "the two towers" and most especially "matrix reloaded".

and now i've pretty much forgotten what else i wanted to include. oh wait, i remember, snow. it snowed last week. well, not really snow, but just a light dusting of the white stuff. so it was rather entertaining for awhile. i realise that i enjoy bad weather on a very weird level, like it just seems as if the ability to overcome bad weather and be relatively unfazed by it makes you a better person. so like an idiot, i walked across the Midway (think 4 parallel roads that seperate the south of campus from the campus itself) to the dining hall, freezing my ass off cos i wasn't wearing enough clothing, and then after lunch, stood right outside the dining hall for like 10 minutes thinking to myself "why didn't i just stay inside till the bus came?" i was convinced that my ears were going to come off with my hat (they didn't). having days where the HIGH is zero degrees celsius is NOT fun. though it is fun to wear many layers of clothing, perversely enough.

another thing: i have recently discovered the pleasures of a boardgame called 'settlers', which is kinda like an odd mix of risk and monopoly. it is so bloody complicated, so i shan't attempt to describe it. so go wikipedia it. the fun part about the game is that you get to trade stuff with people, and you find yourself saying ridiculous things like "i would like to trade sheep for some wheat" and people don't think you're an idiot. of course, the sheer addictiveness of the game is irritating, cos that just means less time for sleeping.

final thing: i think i lost a friend the other day. and in the end, i didn't really mind
