just went on soccernet in a bid to stay updated with the latest transfer news. apparently, real madrid is having second thoughts about the whole beckham thing, but LA galaxy is not budging. good for them. but that's not the point. the point is that on the england frontpage, the league table has been reset. arsenal has again returned to the top of the table by virtue of the fact that 'r' comes before 's' in the alphabet. man utd have fallen back to the bottom half.
and i was struck by how futile the entire exercise is. man utd had become champions just a month before, and now the race is on again for another season. everyone begins back at the same place, though obviously some of the clubs are better position to leap right out of the gate. life's like that really. we all start off at the same place, but some of us are better at running the course than others. but at the end of the day, when everything is done, we're right back where we began, at the start of another race. a little grim i think, but nonetheless true.
last day in chicago. 24 hours before i leave. oddly, i haven't done anything particularly fun these last few days, mainly electing to coop myself up at home. maybe that's what i'll miss most, the view outside my window. it'll still be here when i get back though, at the start of yet another race.
