it's not hard to fall when you float like a cannonball

okay, this blog is suffering from serious neglect. it might be because after a 9.5 hour day, i hardly feel the desire to stay at my computer screen too much more. anyways let's see what's on my mind:

coldplay last week was pretty nice. really short, and they did only 1 encore, which i think is somewhat unbecoming of a bad as big as they are. and at the end of the day, i can't help but feel like i paid for a light show more than a concert. but the music was pretty nice, even if the sound engineer seems to have gotten chris martin's mic volume a little low. and some of the songs on the new album sound better live. but i do get the feeling that they are just banging out song after song, like it really isn't anything more than a job to them anymore, which i suppose is probably true. that's a little unfortunate.

pirates 2 was pretty alright. very very empire strikes back-ish. anyone who hasn't watched it, but want to: don't bother staying after the credits. it's pretty much crap. keira knightley seems to be coming into her own as an actress. johnny depp is irrepressible, even though i've never really been a fan. orlando bloom, phoning in another appearance as guy-with-sword-in-period -costume but still quite appealing in how he's nailed that role down. there's less of an adventurous spirit compared to the first, and the plot is convoluted for the sake of creating convolutions, but it has its moments.

been reading this book by david brin called "river of time", a collection of short stories. he is a genius writer i think. hard science fiction but in easily digestible chunks (perfect for morning commute). he wrote in one of his comments (each story has a comment linked to it) that science fiction is very friendly to short fiction and writers just starting out, and i get what he means. there is so much imagination in those stories, more than most entire novels. i read one of his full lengths called "kil'n people" which i thoroughly enjoyed and heartily recommend. good stuff.

has anyone seen "nacho libre" and would like to comment? i wanna know whether i should see it this weekend. and "the fast and the furious: tokyo drift" is a crappy movie. but i think you know that already.
